Share your printer on Mac. You can share your printer with another Mac or with a UNIX computer. The computers must be on the same local network as your Mac, and the Mac users must be running OS X v10.4 or later. Download the Xerox Printer Driver
Due to the many Mac models and operating systems on campus, it is best to download the latest printer drivers from Xerox site. Check which operating system your Mac is running before you begin.
- Navigate to support.xerox.com
- Type the model of your printer in the search field (e.g. AltaLink C8055) and complete your search
- Select your printer model from the search results
- Select 'Drivers and Downloads' tab and choose a driver
- Under 'Associated Product,' select 'Built-in Controller'
- Click the 'Operating System' tab and choose your Mac's operating system
- Select the most recent 'macOS Common Print Driver Installer' to download
Install the Xerox Printer Driver (Mojave and earlier)
- Double-click the downloaded Xerox Print Driver.dmg and then launch the Xerox Print Driver.pkg
Add Network Printer Mac Os
- Click Continue to move through the installation wizard
- Click through the prompts to 'Agree' to the terms and 'Install'
- When prompted, enter your computer's password
- Click The single-printer icon (right). Type in the IP address of the desired Xerox printer. Click 'Continue'

Network Printing Machine
- If you are prompted, pick the correct printer model type (you can find them directly on the printer)
- Click 'Close'
- Open System Preferences (either on your Dock or from the Apple Menu).
- Click Printers & Scanners.
- The Xerox printer should now be listed as an available printer.

Install the Xerox Printer Driver (Catalina and later)
- Double-click the downloaded Xerox Print Driver.dmg and then launch the Xerox Print Driver.pkg
- Click Continue to move through the installation wizard
- Click through the prompts to 'Agree' to the terms and 'Install'
- When prompted, enter your computer's password
Install Network Printer On Mac
- After installing the printer driver the Printers and Scanners window should open where you can add the Xerox printer.
- If you need to open the Printer and Scanners window later, you can locate it by going to System Preferences then Printers and Scanners
Add the printer by either printer name or by the IP address:
- Click the ‘+’ to add your printer and select the ‘IP’ tab
- In the ‘Address’ field enter the printer-name-xrx.printer.wfu.edu (example: cars-306-xrx.printer.wfu.edu)

- Ensure the ‘Protocol’ field is set to ‘Line Printer Daemon - LPD’
- The ‘Use’ field should auto populate the correct printer type. The computer will search for the appropriate driver to use, which may take a few seconds to populate.
- If the ‘Use’ field populates with Generic PostScript Printer, double check the spelling of the printer name in the ‘Address’ field, remove and re-add some characters from the ‘Address’ field to restart the search. If the correct printer still does not populate the ‘Use’ field, manually select the correct printer in the ‘Use’ field.

In Windows 10, you can share your printer with many PCs on your network. To share a printer from the PC that the printer is connected to (the primary PC) with secondary PCs that the printer is not connected to, you must set up sharing settings for the printer, connect the printer to the primary PC (either wirelessly or by using a USB cable), and then turn on the printer. Also make sure the primary PC is turned on, connected to the printer, and connected to the network.
Note: When sharing a printer, make sure that sharing settings are set up on the primary and secondary PCs. Also, make sure you know the name of the primary PC. For more info, see the Set up Sharing settings and Find your PC name sections at the end of this topic.
Share the printer on the primary PC
There are two ways to share your printer: using Settings or Control Panel.
Share your printer using Settings
Select the Start button, then select Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
Choose the printer you want to share, then select Manage.
Select Printer Properties, then choose the Sharing tab.
On the Sharing tab, select Share this printer.
If you want, edit the share name of the printer. You'll use this name to connect to the printer from a secondary PC.

In the search box on the taskbar, type control panel and then select Control Panel.
Under Hardware and Sound, select View devices and printers.

In the Add a device dialog box, select Select a shared printer by name, and then enter the computer or device name of the primary PC and the share name of the printer using one of these formats:

Set up Sharing settings
The settings you use to share devices is often turned on by default. If not, follow the steps in this section to turn settings on using settings or Control Panel.
Turn on Sharing in Settings
Select the Start button, then select Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi.
Under Related settings, select Change advanced sharing options.
In the Advanced sharing settings dialog box, expand the Private section. Next, under Network discovery, select Turn on network discovery.
Under File and printer sharing, select Turn on file and printer sharing.
Turn on Sharing in Control Panel
In the search box on the taskbar, type control panel and then select Control Panel.
Select Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change advanced sharing settings.
In the Advanced sharing settings dialog box, expand the Private section. Next, under Network discovery, select Turn on network discovery.
Under File and printer sharing, select Turn on file and printer sharing.
Find your PC name
You’ll need the name of your primary PC, also called the computer name or device name, to connect the secondary PC to the printer.
Find your PC name in Settings
In the search box on the taskbar, type computer name.
Select View your PC name.
Under Device name, you’ll see the PC (computer) name.
Find your PC name in Control Panel
In the search box on the taskbar, type control panel and then select Control Panel.
Select System and Security > System > See the name of this computer.
Under Computer name, you’ll see the PC (computer) name.
